You will see many condition labels in Ghanaian electronics shops. They are not interchangeable, and none of them means new.
| Label | What it usually means | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| New | Unused, sealed, full warranty | Is the warranty local? |
| Open box | New item whose box was opened (returns, display units) | Are all accessories included? |
| Renewed / Refurbished | Used item inspected and repaired, sometimes with replaced parts | Who refurbished it, and what warranty applies? |
| UK-used / Ex-UK / Foreign used | Second-hand item imported from abroad | Battery health, network lock, iCloud/Google lock |
| Grade A/B/C | Seller's own cosmetic grading of a used item | What defects does each grade allow? |
Why PriceGenia separates them
A refurbished phone at GH₵2,000 and a new one at GH₵2,600 are not the same deal. Mixing them makes the cheapest price look better than it is. That is why our comparisons show new offers only by default. If we cannot tell an item's condition from the retailer's listing, we hold it back instead of guessing.
If you choose used or refurbished
- Test the device before paying where possible.
- For phones, check the battery health and that the device is not locked to an account or network.
- Get the seller's warranty terms in writing.
